The process of proof reading involves removing all spelling and grammatical errors from a manuscript. It does not involve changing the layout or content of the manuscript in any other way.
Formatting involves changing the layout and appearance of the manuscript to that expected and required by agents and publishers. This means changing, where necessary, page size, font, paragraph format, indentation, page positioning of dialogue, chapter headings and so on.
Editing involves changing and improving prose and dialoge, repositioning major elements of the story timeline and making the story better. We will never do that without the express permission and agreement of the author.
We charge £15.00 British pounds (about $26.25 US dollars) per hour for formatting and proof-reading. As a rough guide, an average novel of 80,000 words would require about 12 hours to completely reformat and proof read, about 9 hours to just proof read.
You might want to look at our Info Pages to find advice on the correct format for various types of manuscript. It is a task you only need to do once before you start writing and saves a lot of trouble for all concerned.
